A little planning. A relaxed arrival.

Plan your arrival

Choose the direction you are travelling from for a practical approach to Brown Rigg. If you are towing or driving a larger motorhome, plan the final part of your journey before setting out.

Which way are you coming from?

From Newcastle / South

A69 → A6079 → B6320 → campsite

  1. From Newcastle, follow the A69 westbound. About a mile beyond the turning for Hexham, turn right onto the A6079, signed Bellingham and Kielder Water.
  2. Continue through Wall. About three miles along the A6079 in total, roughly three-quarters of a mile beyond Wall, turn left at the crossroads onto the B6320.
  3. Cross the River North Tyne at Chollerford and take the second exit at the roundabout, staying on the B6320.
  4. Continue through Wark towards Bellingham. The campsite is on your left before Bellingham village, just beyond the Bellingham local-services sign.

Coming up the A68 from the south? Use the A69–A6079 approach instead of continuing north from Corbridge. The guide warns of blind summits on that stretch of A68 and unsuitable early turnings towards Bellingham for towing vehicles.

From Carlisle / West

A69 → A6079 → B6320 → campsite

  1. Follow the A69 eastbound. Before the turning for Hexham, turn left onto the A6079, signed Bellingham and Kielder Water. This junction is about a mile west of the Hexham turning.

Travelling via the A686 from Penrith? The guide advises care with caravans because of steep roads and sharp bends. Please telephone if you need help planning an appropriate approach.

From Jedburgh / North

A68 → B6320 → Bellingham → campsite

  1. Follow the A68 southbound and turn right onto the B6320, signed Bellingham and Hexham.
  2. Stay on the B6320 for around six miles to Bellingham. Continue through the village without turning off, passing the Black Bull landmark on your left.
  3. Cross the bridge over the River North Tyne. Continue along the same road for around 600 yards, without turning.
  4. Pass the chapel and row of cottages on the left. The campsite is just beyond these, on your right.

Stay with the B6320 approach through Bellingham. Do not substitute the minor-road shortcuts shown as unsuitable in the route diagram.
